God Bless ‘Em All
GOD BLESS ‘EM ALL
Now he wears the uniform he used to dream of as a child
Although he’s only been a man for a little while.
Folks come up to him to shake his twenty-year-old hand.
He left college to be with a band of brothers, to travel, and to be a man.
He’ll sacrifice his body, he’ll leave his family and wife
Performing what he does so we may more enjoy our lives.
With other hardened veterans and others barely more than youths,
They’ll all defend together and they damn well know how to shoot.
God bless ‘em all who play basketball.
We all look up to them because they stand so tall.
God bless ‘em all who play basketball.
We will pray for victory to the men with the big balls.
And, we are not afraid to question their superiors
Who better give ‘em the right equipment, training and doctors.
They don’t need slimy advertising to get their new recruiting class,
And you gotta be at least nineteen to be honored with a draft.
God bless ‘em all who play basketball.
We all look up to them because they stand so tall.
God bless ‘em all who play basketball.
We will pray for victory to the men with the big bouncing…
The captain of the squad stands upon the line.
He’s just taken a charge, but he’s back up, and there’s not much time.
He cocks and shoots and hits his mark. He did it for his men.
But, he did it for all of us. Then, he points up to Heaven.
God bless ‘em all who play basketball.
We all look up to them because they’re freakin’ huge!
From the mighty Motor City, to Massachusettes Bay,
From South Beach in Miami to the shores of the Golden State,
God bless ‘em all!
From the peaks of Utah and Denver, from Houston and New Orleans,
Memphis, Phoenix, Charlotte, Chicago, New York and New Jersey,
God bless ‘em all.
Don’t think I forgot you, Cleveland! God Bless You. I cried when you guys lost. I cried when you guys won. You make me cry a lot. God Bless You. Nothing is impossible! I mean, everything is possible. [sneeze] God bless you. I love this game.
