Where Were You?

WHERE WERE YOU?

(Parody of “Where Were You…” by Alan Jackson)

Where were you when the world stopped turnin’ on that September day?

Were you reading to second grade children in your little brother’s home state?

Had you just taken more days of vacation than any President in history?

Did the memo “Bin Laden Determined to Strike” just escape your memory?

Did you hunt down Osama “Dead or Alive” in the mountains of Afghanistan?

Or did you think it might be more convenient to instead just go after Saddam?

Did you think you had “darn good intelligence” about weapons of mass destruction?

When you stood under the “Mission Accomplished” banner, did you think that our job there was done?

Well, I’m a singer of silly songs.  There’s lots I don’t understand.

And that’s why I’d like to get a good answer to some of these basic questions.

You say you know Jesus and you talk to God.  And, that sounds like it’s lots of fun.

So, why didn’t you listen to the warnings of terror in the months before 9-11.

Why do you keep reminding us to remember that September day?

Bill Buckner doesn’t call people up to remind them when the ball went through his legs.

Why did you send out our National Guard to be another nation’s cops?

Do you expect them to follow your lead?  I hope not ‘cause you didn’t turn up.

I’m a singer of silly songs.  There’s lots I don’t understand.

But I sure as Hell can tell you the difference between Al Qaeda and a guy named Saddam.

You say you know Jesus and you talk to God, and I’m sure they’ve got lots to tell you.

‘Cause they just met one thousand of our own troops who are with them now because of you.

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day?
